Open Source Information Center

Recently (27/03/04 to 11/04/04) Jutta Horstmann and Jan Muehlig visited Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to talk with people about Open Source Software and Linux and to promote the idea of free and open source software. Those talks and the feedback after the presentation held at the Goethe Institute in Addis Ababa showed that Linux and Open Source is seen clearly as a big chance for Ethiopia. Read the full report here.

However, it is currently very difficult to get the software (no CDs available anywhere, very slow internet connections), and to find support and likeminded people.

Therefore we are now initialising a Open Source Information Center in Addis Ababa. This institution (or center) - non-profit and open for everyone - will give support (or connect to people who can give support), provide contacts to others, and also offer CDs and resources around Linux and Open Source Software.

In order to achieve this goal we are currently looking for sponsors and support for this project.
